The clear ones actually aren't clear. They're color matched to the car. So the original ones were actually red, and the ones I have on th car currently are new black versions.

Well, at least by Michigan law Historic plates are for cars that are only going to be driven to and from an event. They are not to bused for normal every day driving.

Doesn’t stop me from taking the Montego on a Home Depot run though, I can promise you that.

Honestly the cops normally don’t care about that restriction at all.

What’s the benefit of having historic plates then? Lower registration and insurance costs? If that’s the case, I’ve got to look into it for my ‘92 miata next year (New York State). I only drive it to and from autox/track/garage anyway.

Yes because its driven way less so insurance is cheaper and usually certain places will give discounts. (Haggerty I think is one). And plate is good for life of car as you own it. I don’t think you have to renew every year. (This is for Michigan)

That would make sense for a track/autox car since insurance wont cover track damage anyway.... I would just pull all the registration and insurance from my car, but I don’t have a trailer or a tow vehicle. Historic plates would make sense if I can get super cheap insurance on it.

Does anyone know how it works in NY?

DON’T GET HAGGERTY INSURANCE

Shit is expensive.

Quote from them vs my normal insurance (state farm) when I was getting the Montego insured. Haggerty= 360 for 6 months State Farm was 125 for 6 months.

Haggerty is collector car insurance and they’ll insure some stuff that maybe some people won’t but always try elsewhere first.
